Carrie Isaac Wins House District 73 Debate
I’m thrilled to share: I won the debate!
Comal and Hays counties deserve a true conservative representative who has real solutions and who won't back down from a fight. The debate held this week by the Dripping Springs Republicans clearly showed I'm the only candidate with a plan to cut property taxes for all Texans, a track record of fighting liberal gun grabbers, and the courage to defend our freedom unapologetically.
My opponent's “solution” for skyrocketing property taxes is anything but a solution, it’s actually a tax increase. His proposal to freeze taxes only for homeowners over 60 will leave everyone else paying more, and even his suggestion that we increase the homestead exemption is just kicking the can down the road. Businesses and renters will wind up shouldering more of the burden.
It’s no wonder he’s telling people that during his term as mayor of New Braunfels he was able to “maintain the tax rate” or “lower the tax rate,” but what he’s not telling you is that he knew your taxes were going up anyway because of increasing property values. He voted to raise property taxes by double digits every year but one. During his six years in office property taxes for homeowners, landowners, businesses, and renters increased 84%. Does that sound conservative to you?
While my opponent is offering mere Band-Aids, I have a real plan to actually rein in spending and cut property taxes for all Texans — not just keep them from going up too much more. My plan requires fiscal restraint: maintaining a strict spending limit of population plus inflation and using the excess revenue to buy down the school Maintenance and Operations (M&O) tax. The state currently has $12 billion in surplus tax revenue that could be used for tax relief, and economists say that with my plan we could completely eliminate the largest property tax we pay in 12 years — along with ending the “Robin Hood” program that steals funding from every school in House District 73.
My plan is an actual tax cut for all Texans without touching the Rainy Day Fund. But instead of actually solving this problem, my opponent is satisfied with political gimmicks. I'm confident voters will see the difference.
Our founding fathers considered property ownership an inalienable right like life and liberty. But we don’t truly own our homes in Texas. We rent from the government, and this is unacceptable. Texas should return the $12 billion surplus to struggling taxpayers so they can actually own their home once once for all.
If you agree, would you forward this email to a conservative friend to ask them to vote for Carrie Isaac, and chip in $25 today to help me share my property tax plan with more voters? Early voting is just over a month away, so acting now is critical to ensure our community is represented by a true conservative.
