Updates on education freedom, backing the blue, and more
The legislative session is more than halfway over. I'm so grateful for all the input, questions, and concerns shared with me and my office by my constituents and wanted to update you on a few key issues.
Education Freedom
It is a parent's job to advocate for their children in all aspects, especially when it comes to their education. Last week, I was joined by several of my colleagues in the House, including Representatives Ellen Troxclair and Caroline Harris, to show our support for parents and their choice at the Parent Empowerment rally hosted by Governor Abbott. Bills like HB 4475, which I authored, will ensure that parents, and parents alone, reserve the right to choose what is best for their children as far as their education is concerned.
States’ Rights
This past Monday, I was honored to speak at the Convention of States Legislative Day. It was great to meet with the numerous Convention of States supporters from all across Texas, including Comal and Hays counties. Our founding fathers included the Convention of States in our Constitution to protect us from a tyrannical government. Unfortunately, it is becoming more evident every day that convention of states might be the only thing to protect states' rights from federal government overreach. It is imperative that the power be placed back in the hands of the people rather than lying with the federal government. This is an issue I will perpetually support until its success.
Backing the Blue
Texas law enforcement has struggled to find ammunition and to afford what little is available. This is a true security threat for Texas and puts both our officers and citizens at risk. That's why I proudly joint authored HB 3539, which would allow Texas to manufacture and keep a store of affordable, Made in Texas ammo. This also ensures we are not dependent on other countries like China or Russia for ourl law enforcement's supply.
State Budget
The House Budget meeting is approaching quickly! On Thursday, April 6th, the House of Representatives will debate the General Appropriations Bill into the early hours of Friday morning. I will update you on the budget once it passes the House the Senate and goes through the conference committee.
Easter Greetings
Most importantly, I hope you had a blessed Palm Sunday and enjoy the upcoming Easter weekend with friends and family. It is by His grace that I get to represent all of you, and I will continue the fight for liberty knowing that He is with me.
