Protecting Texas children
Parents have spoken loud and clear, and the Texas Legislature is taking action. As more and more bills make their way through the legislative process, I wanted to share progress on a few critical bills to protect Texas children.
House Bill 900 and HB 18 both passed in the House. HB 900 will ensure children are protected from pornographic material in school libraries, and HB 18 by fellow conservative Rep. Shelby Slawson will require social media apps and websites to obtain parental consent before allowing users under 18 to sign user agreements. It is so important that parents are aware of what their children are being exposed to, and these two bills I'm proud to co-author will empower parents with the final say in what their children are viewing.
I'm also proud that my bill to expand Texas' school marshal program has been voted favorably out of the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee, and I hope to have it before the full House very soon. HB 4470 would allow active duty and retired peace officers and military service members to serve as school marshals.
Finally, I was honored to have Stephen Willeford, the hero who stopped the Sutherland Springs shooting, testify in favor of my legislation to improve handgun license reciprocity between states. His heroism and quick action show exactly why the Second Amendment is such a sacred and cherished part of our Constitution.
With just under a month left until the legislature adjourns on Memorial Day, there will be lots of action on the House and Senate floors. Stay tuned for more updates as we have them!
In Liberty,
