Representative Carrie Isaac Calls for Surplus to be Returned to Taxpayers

AUSTIN — Newly sworn in State Representative Carrie Isaac wasted no time in fulfilling a promise made to those she serves in House District 73.

“I filed House Bill 1325, which directs all surplus funds be utilized to reduce property taxes. This bill puts Texas on a path to eliminating the school maintenance and operations tax, the largest property tax in the state. I have heard story after story of hard-working Texans being forced to give up their family home, take on boarders, and go without basic necessities like medication, food, and in some cases utilities in order to pay their property taxes. My number one priority is to do something, anything, to help Texans stay in their homes,” Isaac stated.

“Texas has a $32.7 billion surplus. While some of that is certainly due to the efforts of conservative budget writers in the House and the Senate, I know that every penny came from taxpayers, and that is where those funds should return immediately,” Isaac added. “There will be hundreds of requests and needs for a million dollars here and billion dollars there, but I can see no better investment than putting dollars back in the pockets that they were taken from.”

Carrie Isaac serves as the State Representative for House District 73, which includes Comal County and part of Hays County.
